Pentagram of Eden
According to old belief amulets and talismans are tools to trigger changes in life. In order to achieve this talismans transfer positive powers while amulets grant protection by absorbing negative energies. Old grimoires contain instructions on how to build amulets and talismans in a way so that they can use positive planetary energies to fulfil their purpose.
The biblical king Solomon established the Jewish secret doctrine of Kabbalah and wrote the magic book "Key of Solomon" 3000 years ago - also this amulet is built according to these magic instructions. The wisdom of Solomon until today is the foundation of all western magic.
This pendant shows man - who has left the heavenly garden of Eden as Adam/Eve - in a pentagram by which he becomes the so-called microcosm in the symbolism of the Kabbalah. This microcosm is a smaller image of the macrocosm, which is symbolized by God and the hexagram. The arms and legs of man reside in the four lower points of the pentagram, while his head rests in the upper point of the star. In this way man joins micro- and macrocosm like he combines body and soul inside himself. According to old belief this is possible because God planed this conjunction of both worlds inside man during creation - in a similar way man also combines the four elements inside himself: He was created out of earth, breathes air, possesses inner warmth (fire) and is mostly made of water. Formerly this magic amulet was worn to win ones beloved heart and to be protected against bad luck and evil.
Among other things medieval knights of the 16th century carried this magic amulet as a fortune charm on their belts. It was popular because according to old belief it was not necessary to charge these kabbalalistic pendants - the correct choice of symbols and materials was everything needed for the amulet to work. The knights therefore used this pendant not only as jewelry but also as an aid to achieve changes in their lives.
This pendant is made of brass which is a popular material for jewelry production, because it is very malleable and also has a good corrosion resistance even after long wearing. Thus beautiful pieces of jewelry which do not tarnish over time can be produced from this material. Brass is a copper zinc alloy with 10 - 45% zinc.
