Winged Serpents - Pendant

The two winged serpents from Celtic mythology depicted on this pendant are trapped in a neverending fight for the land beneath them. This way they are fighting the eternal battle between the bright and shadowy powers. Thus according to old belief the seprents create a balance between light and darkness and between good and evil.
 
This pendant is made of pewter. The word pewter is probably a variation of the word spelter, a colloquial name for the same metal. Artists and craftsmen used pewter quite early (dinnerware, sculptures, household articles, pewter figures, jewelry) and hence pewter jewelry has a long tradition. Pewter is a popular material for jewelry production, since it is a shiny, soft metal which is very malleable and has a good tarnish resistance.
