Celtic Jester - Pendant

In former times the Celtic jester was an important figure. He should not only entertain the country's ruler with his humor, but also using wit and satire throw light on the ruler's mistakes and limits. So in the course of time the jester became a symbol of individuality and insurgency against unjust authorities.
 
This pendant is made of pewter, a shiny, soft metal which is very malleable and has a good tarnish resistance. Artists and craftsmen used pewter quite early (dinnerware, sculptures, household articles, pewter figures, jewelry) and hence pewter jewelry has a long tradition. The word pewter is probably a variation of the word spelter, a colloquial name for the same metal.
