Om - Pendant, Pewter

The symbol Om is often used during meditations as a special tool for concentration. This sign according to old belief stands for spiritual wisdom and inner peace. The ancient Tibetan mantra "Om mani padme hum" is said to lead the meditating to the inner centre of quietness in which he can find love and complete harmony with himself.
 
This pendant is made of pewter. The word pewter is probably a variation of the word spelter, a colloquial name for the same metal. Artists and craftsmen used pewter quite early (dinnerware, sculptures, household articles, pewter figures, jewelry) and hence pewter jewelry has a long tradition. Pewter is a popular material for jewelry production, since it is a shiny, soft metal which is very malleable and has a good tarnish resistance.
