Double AxePendant, Pewter Once the double axe was the main weapon of Nordic warriors and was used offensively as well as defensively. Its proper use required intensive training and a natural talent for axe-combat and therefore a master of the double axe was esteemed by friend and foe. For the spiritual warrior the axe symbolized absolute control over the own mind and complete self-awareness, because it cuts the veil of self-deception into pieces with its blade and unsheathes the true causes and motives. This pendant is made of pewter, a shiny, soft metal which is very malleable and has a good tarnish resistance. Artists and craftsmen used pewter quite early (dinnerware, sculptures, household articles, pewter figures, jewelry) and hence pewter jewelry has a long tradition. The word pewter is probably a variation of the word spelter, a colloquial name for the same metal. This piece of jewelry can be gilded
